Part of what interested me in design - my career for many years - was a fascination with type. In this series, "Alphabet," I've drawn each letter of the alphabet in a similar graphic style, but each letter is a pattern. The letter patterns are then combined to make words, or in some cases, acronyms. I see this exercise as freeing the letters from their encumbered linear orders into art. The letter that we are accustomed to produced words that we understand through language are now forming a different function. In their graphic forms, they are expressing emotion, energy, motion, and maybe a new meaning.
